Cheers to Summertime

Celebrate summer

Tips on surviving summertime in the south: find a pool. Hop in. Do a little dance. Repeat.

School’s out and summer is almost officially here. With a multitude of activities to choose from to laze the days away, sometimes you just need to spend a day at the pool.

Create unforgettable moments by the pool this summer with these tips on surviving poolside:

Hydrate – Keeping yourself hydrated during a day spent in the sun is a must, and fortunately for grown ups, beer is over 90% water. The best pool pairings? Ride the wave with Oren, a Pale Ale with just the right citrus twist. Set seriousness aside with Alani, our rose ale bursting with flavors of grape, cranberry and hibiscus, and soft wine tannins. Or laze the day away with JOGR, our juicy lager, a perfect summer drinking companion with orange, melon and grapefruit.

Sun protectionLather up before heading to the water: Skip the kid-wrestling (or extra ornery adults) and apply sunscreen before leaving the house. A broad spectrum 30 SPF or higher works well for most, and don’t forget to coat your lips in an SPF balm as well. For extra protection, add a hat and some sunglasses to spare your eyes from the bright sunshine.

Favorite tunes – The weather is warm, the sun is shining, and there’s nothing quite like taking it all in with your favorite playlist setting the mood. Beach party? 80’s classics? 90’s pop? No matter what you’re in the mood for, there’s magic in the perfect pool party playlist.

Take a Dance Break – That’s right–lighten up your afternoon with a mid-day dance break. Studies show that dancing along to music even for five minutes can boost happiness and improve creative-thinking patterns. Another bonus? Dancing also improves spatial awareness, raises the heart rate and causes a release of feel-good endorphins into the bloodstream.

Game of Cones – A song of ice…cream. Or a slushy, or any other frozen treat can tame the heat of a summer’s day. Pair a sweet treat with your favorite craft beer for a perfect way to toast to the end of a pool day well done.

Balance the stress of daily life with a day at the pool made better with music, friends, and your favorite drink. And plenty of sunscreen.
